While the soup was getting hot, the traveler tasted it. He said, "Hmm, it's nice. But it would be even better with carrots." Then, a villager came with some carrots. Unit 5 The Secret Life of Leaves

Have you ever thought about how plants live and grow? They have a cool trick called photosynthesis, which is like their daily job.

This magic happens in the leaves, which are like the main stage for this awesome demonstration. Inside the leaves, there's a green stuff called chlorophyll. What does chlorophyll do? It's like the main star in a show, grabbing sunlight to use as energy. But, there are also two other important things needed: water from the ground and carbon dioxide from the air. Think of them like the side characters in a story.

When the sunlight shines on the leaf, it powers up chlorophyll and starts a special kind of game. This game changes water and carbon dioxide into two cool things: glucose and oxygen. That's what photosynthesis is all about. Plants use glucose to grow and let out oxygen for us to breathe.

Why does this matter? It's super important because it helps plants get bigger and even gives us the air we need. So, when you see a plant next time, remember all the amazing team work happening inside each leaf. It's like a mini science party, but just for plants, helping the environment!

Level 8 / E7 - 2

Unit 3. The Brain's Copycat Cells

Have you ever noticed that you smile when you see someone else smiling? Or feel sad if you see a friend crying? This happens because of special brain cells called mirror neurons.

Back in the 1990s, researchers found these cells while studying monkeys. These neurons act like copycats. If a monkey sees another monkey grab a banana, its brain acts as if it’s grabbing the banana too!

We humans have these copycat cells as well, and they’re super important. They help us mimic actions, feelings, and even thoughts. That’s why we yawn when we see someone else yawn. It’s our mirror neurons working. It shows us how we can understand what others feel as if it’s happening to us.

But that’s not all they do. Mirror neurons also help us learn languages and get the hang of stories better. So, when you laugh automatically during a funny show or get gripped by a movie, it’s thanks to these neurons. It shows how awesome our brains are, doesn’t it?

But the journey doesn't end there. True chefs keep learning. They set new goals. They keep their ambition high. That's how chefs succeed, through many victories.

Unit 5. A Modern Convenience or A Health Risk?

Today, many people eat processed foods. It is because they are quick, tasty, and easy to find. These foods are popular because they save time, especially when people are busy. Some examples are canned vegetables and frozen dinners. They are simple to store and cook. Over the years, healthier versions have been created. Examples of this are cereals with added vitamins or canned foods with less salt.

However, processed foods can also cause problems. They often have a lot of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats. These can lead to health issues like obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Plus, the packaging of these foods often uses lots of plastic. It can harm the environment and create waste.

Recently, more people are interested in organic and local foods. They even grow their own vegetables. This is making people think more about what they eat. Yet, processed foods are still very common in many homes. In the end, it's up to each person to decide if they want to choose healthier options.
